In the fall of 2003, New College of Florida’s Environmental Studies Program received a two-year grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in support of their stategic goal to protect, conserve, and restore living marine resource habitat and biodiversity. The project proposed for this grant was a partnership between New College of Florida and Indian Beach/Sapphire Shores to explore the current state of the neighborhood’s environment and work together to create positive change based on residents’ interests.
The project was dubbed the Neighborhood Environmental Survey Team (NEST).
